Seoul: South Korea has extradited to New Zealand a woman suspected of murdering two children whose bodies were discovered in suitcases in Auckland in August, South Korea’s Justice Ministry said on Tuesday.
According to a statement by the ministry, the 42-year-old Korean-born New Zealander was transferred to New Zealand authorities Monday evening at Incheon International Airport.
She After allegedly murdering her 10-year-old and seven-year old children, she is believed to have fled to South Korea in 2018.
“Along with the suspect, the Justice Ministry has also secured key evidence and provided it to New Zealand as per their request,” it said.
According to police, the woman denied the murder charges when she was detained in Ulsan by Interpol after they issued a red alert for her.
“I did not do it,” she told reporters at the time.
After remains were discovered in suitcases purchased at an auction in Auckland by a family not connected to the deaths, New Zealand police opened a homicide investigation in Auckland.
