Allowing pedophiles to act out their perverted fantasies using sex robots may prevent them from harming children, researchers have controversially suggested.

According to the same theory, adult-sized devices could also be used by would-be rapists and others interested in violent sex.

Nauseating child sex dolls are already for sale in some dark corners of the internet.

While it is illegal to import a child sex doll into the UK, there is no law specifically criminalizing the possession or making of a sex doll.

Importing a child sex doll/robot is illegal in the UK and several other provinces, this example has been seized by police in Australia

What is the law on child sex robots/dolls?

There is no specific law in the UK regarding child sex robots or dolls.

However, people who import child sex dolls into the UK are punished under a customs law for bringing ‘indecent’ items into the country.

This can result in up to seven years in prison and an unlimited fine.

It is not an offense in the UK simply to possess such a doll.

But owning a photo of someone can be illegal under laws governing pseudo-indecent images of a child.

Selling or distributing such dolls in the UK is also illegal.

It is up to the police to prove that a doll imported into the country is for sexual purposes and has childlike features.

In legal guidelines, the prosecution states that the younger the appearance of the doll, the greater the public interest in prosecution.

Adult sex robots are already available for around £3,000 and are capable of facial expressions and interactive conversations via AI.

Some experts argue that child versions may offer a therapeutic “opportunity” and that studies are needed to work out “preferred characteristics” for pedophile users.

The team, from the Czech National Institute of Mental Health, presented their highly controversial idea at a leading sexual health conference in Belgium.

They explored the idea of using sex robots with people with ‘paraphilic interests in minors’.

Paraphilic is a broad term meaning you have an ongoing abnormal sexual interest.

It includes pedophiles, voyeurs, flashers and those who engage in violent sexual fantasies.

Two such groups were recruited online, a cohort of 48 men sexually attracted to children, another 57 with a sexual interest in ‘consent/violence’.

They were asked to respond to a survey on the use of sex robots, comparing the results with a control group of just over 800 non-paraphilic men.

The team said: ‘We expected both audiences to express a greater desire for sex robot experience.’

They added that this was because “sex robots would allow them to express paraphilic sexuality within legal constraints.”

Analysis showed that 18 percent of the control group wanted to have sex with a robot.

But the rate doubled among pedophile respondents (37.5 percent).

Desire was also higher among participants “interested in non-consent/violence” (26 percent).

Presenting her team’s findings, Alena Mareckov, a psychology student at Charles University in Prague, said: ‘This indicates that individuals with a paraphilic interest in minors are slightly more open to the idea of sex robot experience.

“Studies exploring preferred characteristics of sex robots and interest in using them in therapy are needed.”

She added that the research is designed to find out if sex robots are an appropriate therapeutic tool, but that some paraphilic individuals are interested in them.

The results of the research and the summary of the conference have been published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine.

Using child sex dolls/robots to treat pedophilia, similar to how we use drugs to wean addicts off heroin, is not a new idea and has been touted before.

Professor Noel Sharkey, an expert in AI and robotics at the University of Sheffield, said the results of the Czech study were extremely limited.

“This study says nothing about the use of sex robots for therapeutic use on pedophiles or potential sex offenders,” he said.

“It just tells us that in the small sample, slightly more people who want to have sex with children or have non-consensual sex want to have sex with robots than other randomly chosen people.”

Like other experts, he added that there was no basis that having a child sex robot would lessen pedophiles’ desire for the real thing.

“It would be a serious mistake to believe that if a pedophile has sex with a robot, it would diminish their desire to have sex with children,” he said.

“We already know from police reports that pedophile gangs love child-sized sex dolls, either individually or in groups. But it doesn’t change their wish to have children.’
