 Nearly five years after the smashing success of the first film, it has been confirmed that the star-studded cast of Girls Trip will be reuniting in an exciting new locale.

Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Tiffany Haddish will be reprising their iconic roles from the 2017 smash hit film as the sequel will likely be taking place in Ghana. 

 Tracy Oliver – who co-wrote the original film – made the revelation to Variety at the Sundance Film Festival over the weekend

The writer/director/producer – who was there to promote the second season of her Amazon series Harlem  – said that she had a ‘definitive Girls Trip 2 update. That it’s officially happening. I can say that.’

The talented filmmaker also may have given too much information as she also revealed the possible setting and plot of the film as she joked that producer Will Packer ‘might kill me, we’re looking to set it in Ghana.’

As the first film centers around a group of friends heading to the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans there was a possible hint of where the foursome would be going in the sequel as the publication reports that Harlem actress Shoniqua Shandai screamed ‘Afrochella!’ when the news was dropped.

 Afrochella – which is now known as Afrofuture – is Ghana’s premiere cultural and music event.

Oliver went on to confirm that the group will be looking to attend the highly-popular festival. 

The first Girls Trip was a massive success at the box office as it earned $140million worldwide on just a $19million  production budget.

In the US alone the film earned over $100million  and was the first film of that year to do so.

It wasn’t just a hit monetarily as the critics also loved it earning a very impressive 92% on movie review aggregate site on Rotten Tomatoes.

It was even chosen as one of the top ten films of 2017 by Time Magazine.

In it Hall portrays Ryan Pierce who is a bestselling author while Latifah is Internet gossip reporter Sasha Franklin.

Rounding it out was Pinkett Smith’s Lisa Miller Cooper who is a nurse and mother and Haddish played loud happy-go-lucky friend Dina in her breakout role.
